WICKED: The Life & Times of the Wicked Witch of the West #1
Halfway through and I can’t help but think about how bad of an adaption the movie is, and the musical for that case. I’ve seen Wicked live and it’s good. Really good. But the book is SO MUCH BETTER. Obviously, right? This story is so rich and the world building is phenomenal work. The politics are incredibly interesting and keeps me turning the pages. The political science major in me cannot disappear. The musical, movie, and book are distinctly different from one another. It reminds me of the bastardized adaption of The Shining. Some books just can’t (or won’t?) be adapted in way that conveys the message and feeling of the text.
Terrible Book to Movie Adaptions:
Wicked, The Shining, The Goldfinch, Lolita
Good Book to Movie Adaptions:
Requiem For A Dream, Nomadland, Dune, American Psycho (I will write more on this), TKAMB, Killers of The Flower Moon, A Clockwork Orange, Akira, Women Talking, There Will Be Blood, All Quiet on The Western Front, The Virgin Suicides, Pride & Prejudice, Little Women, Gone Girl, Romeo & Juliet (Baz’s), Lord of The Rings
